What does assistance for my minor child at the airport consist of?
Minors must be accompanied to/from the airport. Escorts should stay until the plane takes off or arrives.
Check-in and preparation
- Make sure you arrive at the airport 2 hours before departure to ensure a smooth check-in.
- Check the child in at the counter.
- The child will receive a UMNR bag containing the flight ticket, boarding pass, passport or identity card and the UMNR form.
- The child must carry this bag with them throughout the flight.
During the flight
An employee accompanies the child from check-in to the aeroplane. The child is given a seat close to the cabin crew so that they can get help if needed.
Arrival at destination
- A local employee accompanies the child to the person who is picking them up.
- This person must show a valid identity card.
- The employee checks the identity card against the information in the UMNR bag.
Please also pass this information on to the person who will be collecting the child.
Important: from 31 August 2026, children aged 5 to 11 will no longer be permitted to travel unaccompanied, and we will no longer offer the Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service on our flights. New UM bookings will no longer be possible from 31 August 2026. All existing bookings with the UM service will remain valid and will be honoured as booked.
